ARP 101: U/Groove/True

Photobucket

ARP 101's new 12" conjures images of old club scenes of Lee jeans, silk shirts, oversized shades, Monte Carlos and speeding Stingrays with music pumping out of 808s and harmonies from the vocoder. Charming chords, deft drum programming and luscious leitmotif dominate throughout the tracks.

These 3 tracks play out like a shimmering, diffused, neon tapestry fused together by the Vocoder! "U" kicks things off in seductive vocodered 2-step electro-soul style. The skittering 808 rhythms and sleazy synth lines work a treat. Things get even deeper on the flip as "Groove" gets in a Loose Ends groove - "Hanging On A String" stripped to the bone perhaps? "True" closes the EP in a staggering boogie-wonk fashion - like falling and walking at the same time...

This one is out on wax on Eglo Records, and should come out digitally in the next fortnight.

Hashfinger: 11 October

Photobucket

High time for the sixth free beat tape from HashFinger and this time around its all about the female vocals floating over jazzy horns & tight drums. With a candle light spanish feel to this tape as apposed to last months slightly more harsh and eerie sounds, but don’t get comfortable its all about to kick off this Halloween when Hash drops the rawness he has in store!

All in all another strong fix from Sinoptic’s HashFinger and it looks like he has no intention of stopping this consistent flow of beat tapes flowing out of the Hash lab, keep it locked for ‘November.11’

Paul White: Fader Mix

Photobucket

Paul White follows Lunice's mix for Fader a fortnight ago with equal aplomb. This follows the recent release of Rapping With Paul White which you should have already picked up over on OHM...

The first thing you need to know about this mix is that it is 34 tracks long. The second thing you need to know is that it is done by Paul White, who seems to be a master at creating fuzzed out weirdness that rappers like Danny Brown are totally comfortable jumping on. This mix, while featuring a whole lot of originals from White, also gives a good window into what he’s stoked on. It’s no surprise that a lot of it has a similar layered and baked (in a stony way) vibe. Tame Impala’s “Why Won’t You Make Up Your Mind” pops up here as well, proving that it’s a lasting staple for everyone from rappers in Huntsville to bedroom psych blazers like White.
